Currency and Money Exchange
The currency of Taiwan is New Taiwan Dollar (NTD). Most stores do not accept foreign currencies, but credit cards are widely accepted. Banks, some hotels and shopping malls offer currency exchanges service. The business hour of bank in Taiwan is 9:00a.m to 15:30 (Mon.- Fri.). ATMs are widely available at banks, convenience stores, post offices and MRT stations. Most ATMS are linked with Visa, MasterCard, JCB, Plus, Cirrus and American Express.
Electricity
The standard voltage in Taiwan is 110V, 60Hz AC. Electrical sockets usually have two vertical slots.
Tip & Tax
- Tipping is not customary in Taiwan.
- Service charges are often included in the bills for rooms, meals, and other services.

Some stores with the mark below in Taiwan offer tax refund; foreign tourists can get 5% off refund on a receipt for a minimum purchase of NT$2,000 (about USD 65).
- Please indicate to the clerk that you want tax refund before paying the bill and give your passport for registration.
- You can also receive tax refund at the Tax Refund Service Counters located in the Taoyuan International Airport before departing.
- Please present refund receipts with the purchased goods at the customs desk at the Taoyuan International Airport when departing.
